The Department of Rural Development has been offering a revised Master’s Program (M.Sc.) titled “Sustainable Production Systems and Environment in Agriculture” since the academic year 2014-2015. The program accepts graduates from all Departments of Agricultural and Forestry Schools, as well as graduates from Schools of Science, Engineering, Economics and Political Sciences, Health Sciences of domestic universities or recognized equivalent institutions abroad, and graduates from related fields of Technological Educational Institutes (TEI).
Graduating students who have fulfilled all their academic obligations and are only awaiting their graduation ceremony are also eligible to participate in the selection process of the Master’s Program (P.M.S.), provided they submit the relevant certification before the application evaluation date.
If selected by the Selection Committee (E.E.), they must submit their degree certificate to the Secretariat of the Master’s Program before the completion of the registration process. Failure to do so will result in the loss of their right to enroll.
The Master’s Program of the Department of Rural Development offers three specializations (listed alphabetically):
- Biotechnology and Food Hygiene
- Plant Sciences and Environment
- Economics of Agribusiness and Food Products
Based on the evaluation results of the Selection Committee, students are assigned to a specialization upon enrollment. The placement is final, and students cannot change their specialization during their studies.
The courses offered in the Postgraduate Program of the Department are categorized into compulsory and elective compulsory courses. Each course, whether compulsory or elective compulsory, is taught for three hours per week and includes a total of thirteen (13) lectures. Part of each course may be taught in the form of laboratory or practical exercises.
In addition to attending courses, each postgraduate student undertakes a Master’s Thesis. The thesis has a research-oriented nature and exclusively concerns a subject within the broader academic field of the student’s chosen specialization. The process for assigning the Master’s Thesis topic is described in detail in a specific section of the program’s regulations.
The total number of ECTS credits required to obtain the Master’s degree is 75 (Master’s Thesis: 30 ECTS / Course Attendance: 45 ECTS).
